Hjalmar Egon Karl Anton Maier

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Hjalmar "Hal" Maier, age 89, of Pitt Meadows, on October 8, 2025, peacefully at home.

Born May 26th in Bad Reichenhall Germany, Hal emigrated to and spent many joyful years in Canada. He is survived by his devoted partner Christa, his daughter, Jessica, and beloved grandchildren, Kaidance and Carson. He will also be fondly remembered by his stepchildren, Michael, Karen (Doug), and Thomas (Marie), along with Brigitte Langner and his many friends.

Born with a curious mind and a gentle heart, Hal was an outdoor adventurer “Ein Wanderer” who found joy and peace in forests and mountains. His passion for astronomy reflected his endless sense of wonder.

Hal’s legacy is one of warmth, curiosity, and a deep love for his family. He will be remembered as a gentle soul who embraced life with wisdom, laughter, and grace.

Service to be held Saturday October 18th, 11:00am at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Maple Ridge; viewing, Wednesday October 15th at 4 pm at Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel.

He will be deeply missed and forever cherished in our hearts.

Keith and I offer our condolences to Hal's family. We have so many great memories and pictures of Hal over the decades we have known him. We first met for hikes with the Ridge Meadows Outdoor Club over 20 years ago. I remember his love of the outdoors and we enjoyed hiking, skiing and biking with him in Manning Park and Mount Baker, as well as our trip to Germany and Austria. I remember his log house, his dog, Ian, and his great home made potato salad. He had great penmanship and wrote wonderful poems. Hal had a quiet sense of humour that we will certainly miss.
