William Russell Shiels August 12, 1943 to December 6, 2024
Bill, Dad, and Papa passed away at Eagle Ridge Hospital December 6, 2024.
Bill was born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba to Hilda and Russell Shiels. He had two older sisters Margaret and Barbara. They lost their father when Bill was 5. His Dad and uncles introduced him to hockey at a very young age. He loved the sport and was still playing at the age of 81.
After high school Bill attended the University of Manitoba to earn his doctorate degree in Dentistry. After practicing for 2 years in Portage LaPrairie, he then moved to B.C. and practiced dentistry in Coquitlam for 36 years. He was a dedicated and caring dentist.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Kirsten. Their children Cari (Greg), Russell, and Jill (Ian). His very precious grandchildren, Nikola, Ella, Violet, Finnley, Livia, Ruby and Margaret.
He will fondly be remembered by his nieces and nephews. His very dear lifelong friends and classmates.
How dearly we loved him and how dearly he loved us. He will be loved forever.
We will celebrate him April 4, 2025 at 3pm at Meadow Gardens Golf Club, 19675 Meadow Gardens Way, Pitt Meadows, B.C.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the B.C. Cancer Foundation.

Kirsten,
Out of the blue I thought of Bill today, googled him and learned of his passing. I am crushed.
My sincere condolences.
He was a kind and gentle man. I will remember his understated intelligence and mischievous and wry sense of humour.
I confess I learned more about being a dentist working alone side him than I did in four years of dental school.
I guess that passing away comes to us all as we age. Nonetheless it is no less sad.
I wish you well.

Kirsten and family: we're sorry to hear of your loss. I know Morey held Bill in high regard - always lots of stories about their "good old days" at university. Rest in peace.

Dear cousin Kirsten, our deepest condolences to you and your family.
We are so sorry for your great loss and remember with pleasure the times we had and the good fortune of meeting both you and Bill.
We remember espacially the times we had together when we visited you in your home and when you visited us in our home in Gothenburg, Sweden.
We had the joy to get to know Bill but not as much we would like to. We will always remember him with love!
You are in our thoughts!

Kirsten Lynne,Tanya and I wish to express our deepest condolences to you Cari,Russell & Jill on the passing of Bill. As you know my freindship with Bill goes back to the Shoal Lake days where I first met Bill & played Ball with him on the local Team some 60+ years ago. We shared an apartment in New Westminister when I moved to BC in 1968. We fondly remember the involvement we had in each others weddings & the celibration of our anniversities on the October Thanksgiving week-end. Bill and I shared sports over the years, curling with his buddies Doug G. and Joe Fast,slo-pitch in our later years which involved some memorable trips to the World Senior games in St. George,Utah & the Vegas time after. Bill was a great friend & even better gentleman who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. We had great memorable times & shared the odd pint together. Again Kirsten so sorry for your loss and we will be in touch.
