It is with deep sadness, but also with gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Peter George Chatt on June 15, 2026, at hospice in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, at the age of 89.

Peter was born on February 28, 1937, in Vancouver, British Columbia, to Alec and Nancy Chatt. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Ken Chatt, and his sister-in-law, Kay Chatt.

On October 27, 1961, Peter married the love of his life, Jackie Morton. Together they built a life centred on love, family, hard work, and service, sharing nearly 65 years of marriage.

Peter is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Jackie; his four daughters: Karen (Grant Hobbis), Heather (Doug Morneau), Beverley (Rob Peterson), and Cindy (the late Darryl Farewell). He was a proud Granddad to Graham, Angela, Nicole, Joshua, Danielle, Samantha, Jessica, Jordan, Brendan, and Emily, and a cherished Great-Granddad to Addison, Quinn, Elijah, Malachi, Isabelle, Abigail, Gareth, and Norah.

Peter began his career with the Burnaby Fire Department in 1958 and retired as Chief Training Officer. Throughout his career, he was respected for his dedication, leadership, and commitment to serving his community.

Away from work, Peter found his greatest joy outdoors. He was an avid fly fisherman and longtime member of the Osprey Fly Fishers, tying his own flies and spending countless hours on the water. He also enjoyed hunting, camping, gardening, and woodworking, and found great satisfaction in sharing those passions with family and friends.

Peter will be remembered as a hardworking, proud, and determined man whose love for his family was unwavering. Whether as a husband, Dad, Granddad, or Great-Granddad, he leaves behind a legacy of service, strength, and devotion that will continue through the generations who loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Maple Ridge Community Church, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory may be made to the Burn Fund
