Mom’s Celebration of life

• “Wow” we feel honoured to have you all in attendance today!!!
It truly shows the impact she made in us all.
• Mom always enjoyed a party so today it’s her party 🎈

• What can I tell you about our mom?
• She was born in a booming mining town SpringHill, Nova Scotia March 6, 1936. That’s 89 years ago today!!! She was the youngest of 7; she had four brothers and two sisters and was the last remaining matriarch of the family.
• When she was younger they lived on a farm and when it came time for weeding she was better known by her brother as “little one weed” hmmm I wonder what that meant 🤭
• Mom was a hard working lady and to see us through difficult times she held various positions to put food on our table. She was a salesclerk at a China shop in Springhill, cooked for their catering business in Kingston Ontario, a Sales Clerk at Eatons in downtown Vancouver and became a Manager at J Reid shoes and then finally got to retire from Copps Shoes in New Westminster.
• When I remember mom, I think of how determined, how compassionate, how loving and grateful she was. But most of all I think of how proud she was of her three girls Sharon Marie, Carol Olive and Pamela Muriel and the first letters of those middle names spells “MOM”.
• Mom loved her grandchildren Teri, Jennifer, Ivory and Evan whom are here today and proud to be a great grandmother to Deegan and Ryder. She was also very fond of her son-laws: Dave, Brian and Jim.
• Frank was a very dear friend of mom and loved being involved with his family and dear little Emilia.
• She also had a couple other gentlemen that too made her feel special Jim Collinge and Alex Dewar. They were great square dancing partners. Alex was always proud of the homemade apple pies mom baked.
• Like most, mom dealt with a lot of hard times but she always put one foot in front of the other, smiled and moved forward. Mom was always there to support you in whatever you took on and even pushed you to take on that next challenge.
• I’m sure her grandchildren will remember her for her silly poems that I won’t recite but I’m sure they’re giggling inside.
• I can still see mom doing “the shrug” meaning “it is what it is”. Through thick and thin mom gave us the most wonderful life.
• To all the residents and staff thank all for your friendship . I know that she loved you and always enjoyed your smiles.
• Mom, I will always admire the strength you had right up to the last moment to be sure you didn’t leave before your girls could be there by your side. I am truly grateful and humbled by your strength.
• Mom I’ll miss eating salmon sandwiches with a dill pickle on the side, together.
• And do I ever miss our evening phone calls to check in on our day.
• I Love You mommy! 💝

Eulogy by Pam at Mom’s Celebration of life
I have struggled with what I could share with you today, to represent my mom. My list became quite extensive, but I have narrowed it down to...
Her Favourite things:
Her number one thing, I would have to say was Children.. of any age, especially babies. If out with mom and we lost sight of each other...I only had to look for a baby stroller to know that she would be visiting there.
Her Favourite sport I would guess to be bowling. Mom was a frequent winner of bocce during the years that she spent at the Trailer in Birch Bay with Alex. She moved on to Wii bowling at Greystone with Frank and was a natural at it. When teamed up with Sybil, they were almost unbeatable.
Her Favourite Food, a good “down home” lobster roll or a roasted chicken dinner with all the trimmings, of course this also needed to include a nice glass of wine or two.
Mom‘s favourite dessert, I would say was Apple pie, and she made the BEST apple pies. Mom also thought that Apple pie, with a slice of buttered toast on the side, made a delicious breakfast.
Her Favourite activity was dancing. In her younger years, she and my father went to dance parties and she could really cut a rug, and oh my when you got to watch her do a two step polka… her feet were flying. She spent many years involved with square and round dancing and absolutely loved the outfits she wore complete with a crinoline. The last couple of years, Sharon and I were her only dancing partners.. we enjoyed it together right up until the end.
Her Favourite Colour, mom was partial to green but also loved pink, blue and red
Clothing, was important to mom...not only that she had things to wear,.. but that they looked good together, and she took time each day in selecting what to wear, right down to the colour of her socks and shoes!
As I recall, ...Two of her proudest moments were: ...When she was invited to watch the birthing of her grandson, Evan.. and then was also one of the first to hold him.
Another proud moment, was when we returned to Nova Scotia, almost 3 years ago, mom was granted the honour of carrying the urn of her eldest sister when exiting the funeral service.
Mom was such an appreciative lady,.. although I frequently made her a batch of blueberry muffins and a loaf of homemade whole wheat bread, she always was very thankful and never took it for granted.
I have so much love and respect for my mom, she was a beautiful woman, inside and out...and truly, “my kindred spirit”
Our mom got such joy from friendship, acceptance and inclusion, her 6 1/2 years at Greystone with you added so much to her quality of life and I thank you all for making her so happy and welcomed here.

Sharon and Pam:
So sorry to hear of Olive’s passing. She was cut from the same cloth like my Mom and enjoyed life and everything that it offered. She was a a character and I loved meeting her at the lake, San Carlos. You and Pam will miss her dearly but you have such great memories to hold onto. I’m sure Carol and her will have already had aLemon Drop.
Sending hugs Gregg and Marlene Kenward

Mrs. Holland, as I used to call her, was a wonderful, caring lady full of life. She loved her girls to pieces. She was such a good mom, that at times, in my younger years, I was jealous of my friend Sharon and wished she could be my mom too.
Sending heartfelt deepest sympathy to the whole family. May you all find comfort in all the wonderful memories you have created together.
