Born in Bruderheim, Alberta on May 28, 1922, Miriam Gage-Cole (nee Uhl) passed away peacefully at Nicola Lodge, Port Coquitlam on May 22, 2023 at 100 years.
Predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Ronald, son David, sisters Esther and Ruth, and brothers Sam, David and Paul. Miriam is survived by her son, Jim (Janice) and granddaughters, Lisa Penner (Joel) and Melanie Cratty (Jason), three great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Before marriage, Miriam worked as a wartime “Rosie the Rivetter” welder on WWII fighter planes at Vancouver’s Boeing plant. After marriage, she was an avid gardener, creating beautiful, large flower and vegetable gardens in each Burnaby and Maple Ridge family home. Miriam was an accomplished seamstress, sewing curtains, remaking a winter coat, replacing collars and patching jeans for her grateful family.
Family was Miriam’s priority. She and Ron loved to spend vacations visiting or travelling with all of the relatives in Alberta, Washington and Vancouver Island. Among the many gifts she left us, we most value her deep and abiding sense of morality and decency, which she extended to her neighbours and friends through her life. We will miss her wry wit and her loving heart, her lifelong care and thoughtfulness.
We want to express our gratitude to all the excellent staff at Nicola Lodge for their wonderful care and kindness.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, May 28, 2023 at 2 pm. Please contact us at 604 463 9879 for further details.
