It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Barnes on July 24, 2026, at the age of 80. After a brief illness, John passed away peacefully with his loving wife and daughters by his side.

John was born on October 13, 1945, in Bebington, England, and was the youngest of three children, with an older brother, Ronald, and an older sister, Sylvia. He married the love of his life, Angela, in 1967, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned six decades. Their story began in a memorable way—Angela first met John when he was her paper boy. What started as a chance encounter grew into a lifetime of love, companionship, and unwavering devotion.

John and Angela welcomed Karen in 1969 and Tracy in 1972. In 1973 they made the brave move to immigrate to Canada to join Angela’s sister, Linda and husband Bill.

John spent many years working in the paper industry, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.

After retirement, John and Angela traveled many times to Europe where they made many new friends. Of all the places they visited, Vienna remained his favorite city. At home, John enjoyed watching Formula 1, soccer, NFL football and darts, passions he followed enthusiastically for many years. John was a good-hearted person who was always willing to lend a hand and loved making people laugh.  He could be found at the Maple Ridge or Pitt Meadows Seniors Centre’s, playing snooker, helping with computer issues and with Variety Plus.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Angela; his daughters, Karen (Curtis) and Tracy (Neal); his cherished grandchildren, Trevor (Kaylin), Natalie (Garret), Emily, Zac and Cody; and although he never had the opportunity to meet his great-granddaughter, Sadie, he looked forward to her arrival with great love and anticipation.

John will be remembered for his quiet strength, his kindness, his sense of humor, and the unwavering love he had for his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud family man. His legacy lives on in the lives of those who knew and loved him, and he will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A celebration of life will be held at Maple Ridge Alliance Church on August 22 at 2:00 p.m. 20399 Dewdney Trunk Rd, Maple Ridge.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Lung Association www.lung.ca/donate/

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Ridge Meadows Hospital for their compassionate care and support.

John was my favourite Trivia host at Ridge Meadows Seniors Centres. He offered a great variety of trivia questions to challenge our brains. My favourite category was The Beatles music questions. He could have been another Alex Trebek. Thank you for your long and winding road of volunteerism, John.
