With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Joao (John) Luis Pereira on September 15, 2024. Joao is survived by his sisters, brothers, Filomena, Antonio, Carlos, and Paula, as well as extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Domingos and Maria Natalia Pereira, at the age of eight in Montreal, Quebec.
Joao was born in Montreal, Quebec, on July 28, 1973. He was placed in Quebec’s foster care and moved to Maple Ridge, BC, in the summer of 1984. He was generous, courageous, and brilliant. He gave his love and was a mentor to many.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all those who knew him. The family will be holding a celebration of life at Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel.

I can’t count the many amazing memories I have with John. We did dozens of rock climbing trips in Squamish, camping trips all over BC, some big mountain objectives and numerous other outdoor adventures. He was kind, funny, fun loving, adventurous, resourceful, and hard working with a little bit of mischief to keep things interesting. John, you’ve left an imprint on my life that will never be erased. I miss you man.
