Write a Tribute

Passed peacefully in his sleep, on his own terms, at Ridge Meadows Hospital on the evening of January 23rd. Predeceased by his parents, Edward and Gina Carlson. Survived by his brother Pierce (Eileen), two nieces, Sandi and Sherri (Richard) and their children, Jessica (Ryan, Zen), Andrew and Matthew, and many Carlson cousins.

Jan was a fixture in Whonnock where he spent his entire 80 years. He would have remained completely independent if the Internet hadn't come along, forcing him to rely on friends and family to fill out those pesky forms. He never did own a cell phone or computer.

As a commercial fisherman, Jan spent his days studying the movements of the Fraser, which he loved to discuss at length. If you knew him, you could expect a drop-in visit at any moment. He had time!!

With support and caring assistance, Jan was able to enjoy the life he designed for himself--mostly working outdoors, sitting at kitchen tables or paying attention to his River.

His wish for "no foofaraw" will be respected and Jan will rest in the community he called home. He was sincerely grateful to the people in the Healthcare System for their kind care over the past year.

To Pierce and your Family: It has been many, many years since we have spoken, which is very sad considering we are first cousins. I do want you to know how very sad I am to hear of Jan's passing and trust your memories of him will give you peace and comfort.
