SURREY – Jag Mohan Jeet Singh Rattan passed away after complications following a stroke on April 3rd, 2026. He was born in the pre-partition Indian village of Bakarwal, son of Balwant Singh and Harwant Kaur Lalia (both deceased). He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Brijinder; by his cherishing sons, Gurpreet and Amarpreet, their affectionate long time wives, Melissa Hagen and Caroline Colijn, and adoring grandchildren, Maia and Kieran Hagen-Rattan and Nina and Annika Colijn-Rattan; as well as his esteemed brothers, Inderjeet and Amarjeet, and their wives, Satvant and Parkash; his sister, Kewal, and her husband, Chatar Singh; and his brother-in-law, Gurramanjit Anand, and his wife, Gursharan.
After a young life in India and Malaysia, and studies in Chemistry at Punjab University, Jag Mohan came to Canada in 1970 intending to be a teacher but eventually working for some 40 years in real estate, primarily in Delta and Surrey, B.C. and later in Brampton, Ontario. Jag Mohan was an idealist, and believed in peace, compassion and the power of prayer, as well as the inspiration of great ideas and great thinkers. He was spiritualist who expressed his universalist ideas through Sikhism. He lived a life of positivity, in accordance with the Sikh exhortation of chardi kala or eternal optimism. He mixed commitment and flexibility in both life and conversation on things both timely and eternal. He valued originality and aesthetic sense in both personal and domestic matters. Together with Brijinder, they created a warm, inviting and absorbingly hospitable home that welcomed friends and family.
The Funeral Service will be held from 10:00am - 12:30pm, Saturday April 11th at Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel, at 11969 216 St., Maple Ridge, BC, with Sikh religious ceremony to follow at Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib, 15255 68th Avenue, Surrey, B.C., from 2:00pm-4:00pm.
