Despite a determined effort by the doctors and nurses at Ridge Meadows Hospital, at 2:07 PM on July 17, 2024, our brave, beautiful, talented Gail lost her battle with stomach cancer. She fought the good fight with her own special gifts of dignity, kindness and forgiveness and of course, her smile.

Gail was born in 1943, the middle daughter of Ted and Margaret Hill of Vancouver, BC. She was born a singer and spent most of her life singing and performing, Maria in the Sound of Music, Mabel in Pirates of Penzance and the principal director and performer with the Vancouver Mozart Society. She taught hundreds of children and adults in her home and at Place des Arts in Coquitlam and at the Maple Ridge Dance Circle, to sing and love music and later in her life was an enthusiastic member of the bell choir Sacred Bronze.

Gail is predeceased by her mother and father and older sister Lois.

She is survived by her husband, Guy, who adored her. As did her daughter Shawn and her granddaughters

Kimberly and Kaitlyn and by her loving and shattered sister Susanne.

Although the cancer took her voice and her life it could not take her soul. That is with God and now she sings with the angels.

We will gather together at Golden Ears United church at 11:00 AM on August 17, 2024 to celebrate her time with us and wish her well on the next phase of her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donations to the BC Cancer Agency.

Not a day goes by that I don't think about you, my darling girl. You are the love of my life and I miss you more now than ever before. We are all holding onto each other and keeping each other close. Shawn misses her mom and holds the love her mom gave her in her heart.
And Susie misses your smile and her shopping partner and that big heart of yours.
Until that time honey. Until that time.

That is indeed such sad news. With such a bright spark as Gail, one thinks she will go on forever, and possibly come back into ones life at some point. Her forgiveness was great also. At one point she gave me her beloved black french poodle to look after for a few weeks. But just before she was to come home, our next door neighbour backed her car out and ran over it. Still we remained friends.
She and I shared the joy of having our two young kids playing together and revelling in each others company.
Her creativity was endless, as in the plays she put on which involved many.
She has been unforgettable these last decades, and will remain so for the rest of this person's life.

To all dear Gail’s family with much love and remembrances of wonderful times. Gail and I sang together in our teens and later in our 30’s. I loved her voice SO much and adored singing with her. We had a wonderful, loving friendship. So sorry life got so busy and we lost touch. I know she is now singing with God’s Angels and teaching others to sing. So much love and so many hugs. Sharon

My sincere condolences to the whole family.

Gail was my first-ever voice teacher, and the grandmother of my dear friend Kimberly. I went on to become a voice teacher myself, and regret never reaching out to let Gail know. There are songs she helped me learn years ago that still waft into head every so often :')

I'll always remember Gail with a smile. To me she was a sparkling lady--full of spunk, encouragement, and kindness. She will be missed here on earth.

Love to Guy, Shawn, Kimberly, Kaitlyn, and family.

To Guy, Shawn and family,

I had the pleasure of meeting Gail years ago when I impulsively decided to take singing lessons - inspired by seeing her ad in the local newspaper. She convinced me to join her women's ensemble at Place des Arts -- a joyous experience that continued for many years, until her retirement. There was always laughter along with the music. Gail was patient and kind...her heart was huge and her smile was infectious.
She faced the last difficult weeks of her life with the same grace and dignity she always embodied.

Sincere condolences to all of you,
Laura & Mike

Guy, Shawn, and family.

My deepest condolences to your entire family. I have so many amazing memories of time spent in your home all through childhood and teenage years. Gail came with me to pick my wedding dress as my surrogate mom. She was a wonderful, caring, talented lady. 💞
Anna
