With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our dear Papa, Grandpapa, and Great-Grandpapa at the age of 92.
Frank was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1934 to Franz and Johanna Schartinger. He was the eldest of three boys: Frank, Ed, and Hans. His family lived through the difficult years of the Second World War.
In 1958, Frank immigrated to Canada and began working as a tile setter in Toronto.
He later started a ski school in Glen Eden, Milton, Ontario, and enjoyed skiing for many years.
Frank later moved into the electrical business at Zenith Electric in Toronto, where he met Heidi Schwenger. They married in 1969 and moved west to British Columbia, living in Vancouver, Burnaby, and finally Pitt Meadows.
Sadly, Heidi passed away in 1990.
Frank continued his career with Gough Electric, Steetly Industries, and Guillevin International, where he served as distribution manager for Western Canada.
At Gough/Guillevin, he met his second wife, Colette Beaudoin. They shared 21 years together before her passing in 2013.
Frank retired at 59 and enjoyed many happy years travelling throughout Europe and North America. He spent winters with family and friends in Palm Desert, California, and Yuma, Arizona, first in a motorhome and later in a fifth-wheel trailer.
In the summers, he kept his trailer at Birch Bay, where his days were filled with golf, crabbing, card games, dancing, and an active social life at the trailer parks.
Frank met his third sweetheart, Olive Holland, when they both had trailers at the same park in Birch Bay. In recent years, they moved to Greystone Manor in Maple Ridge. While their health allowed, they travelled back east and to Mexico to visit family. They enjoyed their life together at Greystone until Olive sadly passed away in 2025.
Frank was deeply involved in his community and volunteered enthusiastically with Fraser Health’s Fall Prevention Programme.
He was skilled with computers, carpentry, electrical work, and tiling. Always generous with his time, he loved helping with projects at the homes of family and friends.
Frank enjoyed travelling, skiing in his younger years, golfing and watching golf, remote-control car racing, and socializing with friends and neighbours wherever he lived. He was also an excellent cook and continued making his own soup until his final months.
Frank’s passing leaves a tremendous void in our lives. He was generous with both his time and his love, and he will be deeply missed.
Frank is survived by his son Serge and family in Quebec; daughter-in-law Kathy; granddaughters Kristine and Stephi; great-granddaughter Emilia in B.C.; son-in-law Rick in Arizona; and sister-in-law Anne Schartinger and family in Ontario.
A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please raise a glass in celebration of a wonderful man’s life.

He was a beautiful human and an absolute gentleman. I have had the privilege of knowing him as well as Heidi and Collette over many years. He had so much compassion for others that he sent Heidi back to her family after she passed for burial. After he met Collette I was blessed to meet her and we had many wonderful conversations. From that time on they always sent me a birthday card even after Collette passed Frank kept that going and I even received one in April. I will miss his smile and compassion. Rest in Peace, dear friend.

I had the privilege of working/volunteering with Frank on the Fall Prevention program in Maple Ridge. We worked together and were instrumental in bringing a mobile Falls Prevention Program to Maple Ridge and it's still running today. We had fun at various health fairs, Fall Prevention conferences and clinics, July 1st booth and monthly meetings with other dedicated seniors and professionals working to improve older adults health.
I have very fond memories of Frank, he supported and worked for improving his community of Maple Ridge! He always had a joke to tell...

Wonderful generous gentleman , a pleasure to know him and have him as a neighbor in Yuma for many years . An exceptional cook, so creative in Happy hour food dishes that many of us enjoyed .He will be missed .

I had the privilege to work with Frank at Gough Electric part of Steetley Industries and in 1987 Guillevin International Co. Frank was a real positive person with boundless energy and a great 'can-do' attitude and lots of fun too . He and at the time Collette who worked in our Lighting Showroom were a wonderful couple . Frank amongst other responsibilities looked after our Fleet and he was a great proponent of Chrysler Cars and expounded the virtues of at the time Chrysler New Yorker's to our Managers to the point that we thought he had to be a friend of Lee Iacocco and who knows maybe he was . A very kind man indeed . My condolences to his Family .

I will miss our regular joke emails and your comments and encouragements in regards of my model train
layout.
You were a very warmhearted person always ready to give a helping hand for the ones in need.
I stopped counting the number of shelves and repairs you did in our house in St-lazare.
There was never an issue, when a problem occurred you always found a way; "piece of cake"
was your motto.
I will miss you dearly Papa.

I feel so blessed that I got to call you my Grandpapa, even luckier that my daughter got to have a Great Grandpapa. You were truly one of my favorite people on this planet and I learned so much from you. I miss our chats, your hugs and fun sense of humor. Your positivity and good will to others was something that made people gravitate towards you.
Thank you for always being there for us through every high and low. As much as I miss you I feel deeply grateful that you lived a full life with lots of wonderful memories and people that loved you. Cheers to a wonderful life, Grandpapa. I look forward to our next drink together.

I knew Frank for years prior, but as of 2013 he became an important part of our family. He and my mother had a loving relationship and Frank became like a father figure in my life. He was great company on holidays to San Diego and San Carlos, Mexico. He was the first to accept invites to any and all family dinners or gatherings and we enjoyed many opportunities to share a glass of wine together. I will always think of Frank when I make homemade bread or chicken broth as he loved that I gave some to him whenever I made them. Frank’s death left me feeling emotionally broken… He was a sincere and gentle man and the last parental figure that I will have had the pleasure of loving.
