It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mom and Omi, Erika, at the age of 79 on July 4, 2024.

Erika is survived by her children Rosie and Robert, grandchildren Ryan (Jenna), and Ashley (Matt). Sisters Sophie and Maria, and brother Alois (Louie) and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Eddy, Mother Johanna, father Joseph and brothers Richard and Joe.

Born in Bad Blankenburg, Germany, as Erika Schniderschitsch and the youngest of 6 children, at the age of 15 Erika immigrated to Kitchener, Ontario, where one of her brothers had already settled. In April of 1963 she received her diploma for hairdressing. Then in August of the same year, she married Ewald (Eddy) Heinze. By 1971 and 2 kids later the family moved and settled in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia.

Erika worked part time as a hair dresser for 30 years. She spent 20 years working part time at hair design in Maple Ridge where she established a regular clientele. Plus she kept the paperwork in order for Eddy’s business.

Once they retired, Eddy and Erika enjoyed travelling to various destinations. When Erika became an Omi, she found great happiness in spending time with her grandchildren.

Erika was known for her laugh, smile and sassy sense of humour. If you happened to stop by for a visit there would be a good chance that she made some of her delicious streuselkuchin. To her family she was a devoted wife, mother and Omi. Taking care of her family, always came first.

Mom / Omi you will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life will take place Monday August 19, 2024 from 11:00am – 1:00pm

at the Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel 11969 216 St, Maple Ridge

My sincerest condolences Rosie and Robert. So very very sorry for your loss of your mom Erika. I first met your mom when I was 17 years old taking a hairdressing course where she taught for awhile. We had such fun with her and she always laughingly called us such bad girls. We were always up to something. I got to know her and your dad really well many years ago when I moved to Pitt Meadows. I would stop in at the house by the river so many times and always had such a fun time with them both. They were always so welcoming to me and and I had many great lunches with them and always got a tour of the garden. I will miss them both very much.
