It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Tarit Kumar Kanungo, on April 23rd 2025, in Whiterock, BC.

Born in Radthanagore, West Bengal, India, on February 1, 1943, to Pankaj Ranjan Kanungo and Bidyut Prabha Kanungo, he was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

An exceptional man to those that knew him, he bestowed kindness and generosity to everyone he met.

After leaving India as a young man Tarit travelled to Edinburgh, Scotland for schooling and later lived and worked in the UK. In 1978, he moved to Canada on a whim and settled there.

As a family physician, Tarit touched the lives of many people in the communities he worked, especially in Rose Valley, Saskatchewan and St. Catharines, Ontario.

He took pride in his work and had a strong commitment to learning new practices and techniques to enhance his skills and the welfare of his patients.

Tarit is survived by his son Anish (Oksana); his daughter, Ashoka; and granddaughter, Mila.

Cremation Ceremonial Services will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025 at Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel and  Crematorium at 8:00 am.

A celebration of life will be held in St. Catharines, Ontario at a later date.
