Douglas Bernard White
February 25, 1949 – August 1, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Bernard White on August 1, 2026, following a brief battle with cancer. He was 77 years old.
Doug was the beloved husband of Lynn White, devoted father to Vanessa, Daniel (Lindsay), and James (Jeanine), and a proud and loving Grandad to Declan, Keegan, and Emma. His family was the centre of his world, and he took immense pride in watching his children and grandchildren grow.
Doug was born at his family home in Pitsmoor, Sheffield, England, just four years after the end of the Second World War. At the age of 15, he began an electrical apprenticeship at Firth Browns Steel Works, where his hard work and dedication saw him rise to the position of foreman. Later in his career, he found great satisfaction in passing on his knowledge as an instructor of electrical studies at Granville College, where he helped shape the next generation of tradespeople.
In his younger years, Doug embraced an active lifestyle. He ran marathons, played Sunday league football in Sheffield, enjoyed fishing, and spent many happy hours on the golf course. He also had a lifelong passion for reading and was rarely without a book in his hands.
A lifelong and passionate supporter of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, Doug rarely missed the opportunity to follow his beloved Owls. Some of Daniel and James’ happiest childhood memories were of Saturdays spent with their dad at Hillsborough, cheering on Wednesday together. “UTO” (“Up The Owls”) was more than just a chant—it was part of who he was.
In 1987, Doug and Lynn made the difficult decision to leave England and build a new life in Canada, hoping to provide greater opportunities for their young family. It was a courageous choice that reflected Doug’s selfless nature and commitment to those he loved. After settling in Canada, Doug worked as an electrician for United Grain Growers, where he remained until his retirement in 2014.
Doug was known for his generosity, loyalty, and unwavering willingness to put others before himself. He was a kind and dependable man who formed lasting friendships throughout his life. Those fortunate enough to know him will remember his quiet strength, thoughtful nature, and genuine care for those around him.
Retirement gave Doug the opportunity to enjoy life’s simpler pleasures. He treasured time with Lynn, his children, and grandchildren, looked forward to regular rounds of golf with good friends, and enjoyed making the occasional trip back to England to reconnect with family, lifelong friends, and the place he would always call home.
Doug leaves behind a family who loved him dearly and friends who will miss him greatly. Though he is no longer with us, his kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
As those who knew Doug will smile to remember, perhaps it’s fitting to leave with one of his favourite sayings:
“Ill have one more pint and my bill.”

What can we say our hearts are so sad at your loss Lynn.I knew Doug from a teenager when he became part of our family 60 years ago .He was a kind caring and lovely man who we all loved right from the start .We grew up and went on holidays together with Daniel James and Vanessa and our children too and have lots of lovely memories of Doug and lots of laughter .Lynn and all your family no one can take those memories you hold away .Doug a true gentleman and staunch Sheffield Wednesday supporter we will always think of you whenever they are mentioned .One of the good guys xxx

So sorry for your loss Doug was a great friend and workmate and we had some great times together im sure if i had not moved away from poco to vernon I would have spent a lot more time together with him im so glad that I did get to see him on my last visit to maple ridge about 3 months ago rip my frie d 🧡

We had the absolute pleasure of knowing Doug for 60 years.He was the most thoughtful and kindest man you could ever wish to meet.
Have so many .memories of parties and get together and our trip to them in Canada where Doug made us feel so welcome.I will always remember his infectious laugh and in the face of adversity he always came through with a smile Will miss you Doug proud to have had you as a friend Love to Lyn and family xxx

To the family that absolutely made my childhood. My thoughts and prayers are with you Lynn, Vanessa, Daniel, and James. You all were like family to me, and Doug, well what can I say, such a wonderful happy loving man. I’ll never forget his beaming smile every time I came to yours, the way he’d pick me up and put me on his shoulders made me giggle, every time. Always had time for us kids.
