Surrounded by the people who loved her most, Donna passed away peacefully at Mission Hospice on February 2, 2026, just shy of her eighty-sixth birthday. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, on February 21, 1940, to parents Henry and Gertrude, Donna grew into a warm, steady, and generous presence in all our lives.
Donna is predeceased by her parents, by her brother Perry, and by her beloved husband of forty years, Bill. Anyone who knew Donna knew how deeply she loved Bill. Losing him left a quiet ache in her life, and it brings us comfort to know they are now together again.
She leaves behind her cherished son Ken and his wife Kristi, her brothers Bob (Marlene) and Tom (Kathy), and the daughter of her heart, Yvette Jacobson.
Donna and Bill built a beautiful life together, beginning on a little piece of paradise along Kanaka Creek in Maple Ridge—a place where canoeing, fishing, and swimming were right at their doorstep. It was the perfect backdrop for raising their son, Kenny. Donna poured her whole heart into motherhood, always encouraging Ken’s passions and helping him grow into the person he is today.
After retiring from School District 42 as a secretary, Donna and Bill settled on a one‑acre property off Dewdney. They transformed it into a park-like oasis filled with flourishing vegetable beds, vibrant flowers, and winding pathways. Donna passed her love of gardening on to Ken and Kristi, and that legacy continues to bloom.
In her later years, Donna returned to Maple Ridge and made a home at the Legion Manor, where she found community, purpose, and friendship. She gave her time generously—volunteering with the RCMP Speed Watch, the ACT Theatre, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She also took part in activities at the Seniors Centre, especially Carpet Bowling and Meals with Friends.
Donna’s creativity was endless. Sewing and quilting were among her greatest joys, and she was a proud member of the Quilt Guild. Her beautiful work earned many awards; each piece stitched with the care and precision she was known for. And when she wasn’t quilting, she was traveling—seeing the world with an enthusiasm that never faded.
A celebration of Donna’s life will be held on March 28, 2026, at the Maple Ridge Royal Canadian Legion in the Sport Lounge from 12:00–3:00 pm. We are grateful to the Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary for providing light refreshments, and to the entire Legion community for the support they showed Donna and Bill during their years at the Legion Manor.
Donna will not only be remembered for all she accomplished, but for her kindness, her laughter, and the gentle way she carried herself through this world. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
