Dennis La Plante

Write a Tribute

Dennis La Plante, a loving son, a brother, a fun-uncle and kind friend, passed away peacefully on November 26th, 2025.  Dennis leaves behind a legacy of warmth, wit and genuine connection with those he knew socially and those he worked with throughout his career. He was a man whose passions, curiosity and quick humour shaped every room he entered and every life he connected with.

Dennis grew up in North Burnaby, attending Burnaby North Senior Secondary.  He spent his youth playing soccer with Cliff Avenue and continued on to play many recreational sports including in many baseball leagues.  He would test his tennis skills but among all sports, he really favored the game of golf and became an avid golfer with a solid short game.

In his very early career, Dennis was a Crew Chief with McDonalds and is remembered favorably by those he worked with as a fair and kind manager, respectful of everyone and supportive of all employees.

He took his strong communication and leadership skills to continue in a successful Sales career with Nalley’s and Freybe Gourmet Foods. Dennis had the ability to build strong relationships with customers and was acknowledged for many Sales Awards over his career. Dennis is remembered by clients throughout the industry as an incredibly fair and trustworthy person.

The fun Dennis loved Sports which was his love language and his joy.  Whether he was watching a game, playing one, or dissecting every last play, he brought an infectious enthusiasm that pulled others in.  For him, sports were never just scores and statistics – they were a way to engage, to compete, to laugh and to share time with the people he cared about. He attended many Seahawks and Blue Jays games.

Dennis was the biggest cheer supporter of his nieces and nephews throughout their sporting careers, always in attendance on the field, in the gym, supporting their fundraisers and sponsoring their varsity athletics. He took them to hockey games, basketball games and shared his love of sports with them.  As an Uncle, he will always be fondly remembered for his generosity when he would roll up in his Nalley Chip Truck, open the door and let the kids be free to scoop whatever bags of chips they desired!

He spent many years travelling to sunny destination sharing vacation fun with his close brother Kevin and wife Marne along with other friends. Most often Mexico and a few other sunny destinations but he also traveled Europe.

Dennis was well read, intelligent, and perceptive – he had a gift for conversation.  Politics, history, current events – he welcomed it all. His insights were sharp, his humour dry and he was okay to disagree with you. But if you knew Dennis, you might remember him as a quiet person, a kind person not the one to be in the midst of loud and chaotic situations, rather he preferred to be on the sidelines watching the chaos.

Dennis, you will be missed profoundly by your family, all your brothers (Darryl, Paul, Kevin) and your one favorite sister (Suzanne) your wonderful sister in laws Val, Marne and Kim and all your champion nieces and nephews and the next generation of littles.

May you rest in peace Dennis along side Mom, Dad and your brother Paul.

Dennis and I worked together as part of the Management team at Alpha McDonald's in Burnaby from 1984 to 1986. Later on we ended working together again at PoCo McDonald's from 1987 to 1988. I ended up leaving the company in June 1988 and went into Auto Repair at AAMCO Transmissions and after a few months I helped Dennis to get job there as well. He did that for a few years before he eventually went on to work for Nalley's Chips.

Even though I moved around a lot, Dennis and I always manged to meet up occasionally and stayed in touch. When I moved over to England for awhile he came over and stayed with me for a few days before he went on to travel around the rest of Europe. After I moved back to Canada Dennis was the one that helped me move to Victoria. He always made the effort to come a visit me whether it was in Victoria, Calgary and eventually Toronto.

Unfortunately, the last time I saw him was in Vancouver in 2014 when we went out for his 50th birthday. Dennis was a great guy and it was an honour to have known him for over 40 years. He will be missed.

Rest in peace my friend.

Dennis was one of my brother Kevin’s best friends growing up.

We all met Dennis after moving into a new neighborhood in Burnaby first sharing a party line unbeknownst to us who each other was but shortly after my brother Kevin and Dennis met at soccer and became great friends. As kids we all called Dennis his nickname - Mouse, a name his soccer team gave him.

Kevin and Dennis remained lifelong friends and Dennis was often at family events.

Dennis was liked by all, had a great sense of humour and a great laugh. He will be missed.
My heartfelt condolences to the Laplante family ❤️
