It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, April O'Friel, on September 21, 2024. Born on April 1, 1942, in Sligo, Ireland, to Noel and Elma Lambert, April's life was a testament to love, family, and unwavering spirit.
She was a loving sister to Noelle and devoted wife to Jim O'Friel, who she met in Dublin in 1963. They married in January 1964, and their love blossomed into a beautiful family. Their first child, Elma, arrived in October 1964, followed by Sarah in 1968. In June 1969, they embarked on a new adventure, immigrating to Canada, where they welcomed their son, James, in 1970.
April found fulfillment in her career with Air Canada, forging lasting friendships. Her work allowed her to keep the family connected to their Irish roots through frequent trips home, where they cherished every moment at their cottage in Donegal.
April was a natural entertainer, her home always open to friends and family, filled with laughter and warmth. She was a pillar of strength for those she loved, a fierce advocate who never gave up on them, even in their darkest hours. Her love for her family and friends was the cornerstone of her being.
In her later years, April faced the challenges of an aggressive cancer with the same courage and determination that defined her life. Despite her declining health, she never wavered in her care for her beloved husband, Jim, and defied the odds, exceeding the initial prognosis by two and a half years, allowing her to experience countless precious moments with her family.
April leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, deeply mourned by her husband Jim, sister Noelle, three children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She is also mourned by numerous family members in Ireland.
April's spirit will forever be a guiding light for those who knew and loved her.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 3rd at 11:00 am at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Port Moody. (140 Moody Street)
Viewing will be from 10:00 am - 10:45 am at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the BC Cancer Foundation in April's memory.

What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful lady. So many memories of our families growing up beside each other on Riverside, far too many to write down. I will always remember the joy and happiness in your home and Mrs. O'Friel always with a warm smile on her face. I am happy I got to spend some time with her a few years ago at the Shipyards. Condolences to Mr. O'Friel, Elma, Sarah and James. Rest in peace Mrs. O.
