Jessie (JOAN) Doerksen

October 31 1932 - August 4 2018

Our dear, sweet mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend, Jessie (JOAN) Doerksen (nee Brown) passed peacefully in her sleep on Saturday August 4th. Joan was born in Wembley Alberta to Jacob and Nutja Brown (nee Weins). She was one of ten children, and is survived by her sister Louise Brown.

Joan and her husband John built their dream home over fifty years ago in Bedwell Bay BC. There she nurtured their only son Larry; she was a caring and joyful teacher’s aid to special needs children; and she spent countless hours lovingly tending her gorgeous colourful garden. Joanie, as she was called by John, was the light of his life. He thought of her as his angel. She was a bright and sunny ‘Auntie’ to many nieces, nephews, and friends’ little ones. All enjoyed her delicious cooking and baking skills!

Most importantly though, Joan was a close friend and confidante to daughter-in-law Deb, and a warm and loving grandmother to Scott. She will always be remembered for her easy, accepting nature, her open, inviting smile, and the light behind her eyes. She was loved by, and will be missed by many!

Our deepest condolences to the Doerksen family.
Joan always welcomed the neighborhood kids to visit and sample her wonderful cookies and fudge. Our two boys JJ and David grew up waiting for Halloween so they could visit John and Joan and enjoy gum drop cookies and see John's latest wood toy projects. Joan was a wonderful mentor for the kids attending Montgomery Jr. Secondary and then Montgomery Middle school. The children loved her as she helped guide them to a better life. She was a pillar in the Belcarra community. We think of both of them every day as we drive past their home.

My sincere condolences to the Doerksen family. John and Joan were neighbours and I certainly benefited from her garden advice. She was very proud of her family especially her grandson.

My deepest condolences to the Doerksen family. We live in Belcarra and Joan Doerksen was so wonderful to my son when he was a little boy. She baked him fudge and gave him heck when he would walk by and knock all the rocks off she displayed on a larger rock lol! Mr. Doerksen said it was fine for him to knock them off but she didn't like it! She was wonderful and so was her husband. We see their home and rock all the time:)
