Formerly known as Shirley Ann Rowe

Died peacefully in her sleep on May 1, 2024, at the age of 92. Born October 18, 1931 in Port Alberni as the eldest child to parents Geoffrey and Alice Yates. She grew up in Port Alberni, Cobble Hill, Youbou then eventually settled in Maple Ridge where she graduated from Maple Ridge Secondary School.

In 1950 Shirley met Jimmie Rowe and they married in 1951.  Shirley and Jimmie moved to Hammond and went on to raise four children.  Shirley loved to bake, she made the best cookies and there was always a fresh baked cake of your choice for your birthday. Shirley took up knitting and became the wardrobe coordinator for the grandchildren’s Barbies and various other dolls.

Shirley worked at the local IGA in Hammond for many years. After leaving the IGA she landed a job as a Health Care Worker at Alouette Care Home in Maple Ridge before finding a position at as a Health Care Worker at Valleyview Hospital (Essondale) where she worked until her retirement in 1996.

After losing Jimmie to cancer in 1998 she met Lyall in 2003 and married in 2004. Shirley and Lyall went on to have many travelling adventures before he lost his battle to cancer in 2013.

Predeceased by her first husband Jimmie, second husband Lyall, sister in laws Echo Colvin, Ethel Tereposki, Myrna Kilkenny, brother-in-law Wilbur Rowe, daughter Sharon Leroux, son in law David Flynn, great grandson Jacob Johnston, nephews Steven Yates and Mark Tereposki.

Shirley lives on in the memory of her brother Sydney Yates, her children: Harry, Sheila (Gary) McCrindle, Donna (Blair) Isherwood, Son in law Emile (Pattee) Leroux and grandchildren Steven, Lisa, Angela, Carlie (Nakia) Swartz, Ryan (Theresa) Flynn, Caley (Grayson) Flynn/Hall, Travis (Katie)McCrindle, Jenna(Nikko) Verhulst and 19 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr Parsi and the staff at Baillie House for the care and support given to Shirley during her stay there. In lieu of flowers please donate in her name to the charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday May 13, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Maple Ridge Funeral Home 11969 -216 Street Maple Ridge, BC.
