Ronald Martin William Olmstead passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024 in Maple Ridge, BC. He leaves to mourn his wife of 44 years, Diana, 2 sons Ryan and Scott, 4 granddaughters, 7 greatgrandchildren, and his stepmother Elaine. He is predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Loraine, and brother Gerry.
Born in Nanaimo and raised in a logging camp on West Redonda Island, he loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and angler, and loved to work with his hands including building and renovating three of his own homes. He worked for Overwaitea Foods for over 35 years, retiring at age 51 as Vice President of Save-on-Foods.
Upon retirement, he and Diana moved to Denman Island where they lived for 12 years, three of which were spent farming oysters. From there, they moved to Creston where Ron spent the majority of his time landscaping and maintaining their 5 acres and, of course, hunting and fishing as often as possible.
In 2020, Ron and Diana returned to Maple Ridge to be close to family.

My heart goes out to the family.
Ron hired me back in 1988. What a personality - i was comfortable in an instant. This was like a new family and he was so welcoming. From Christmas gatherings at the house and a visit to Denman Island. He always looked out for me and he will always hold a special place in my heart. You will forever be remembered. Much love. Shauna

Rest peacefully, Uncle Ron.
Thank you for the times you’ve welcomed us into your life and home throughout the years. You were a great brother to my dad, and a great friend to my mom. I wish I had gotten to know you more myself, but I thank you for building those wooden airplane figurines and my very own tool box for me.
Keep my old man company up there.
Auntie Di, thank you for taking such great care of him. I’m so deeply sorry for your loss and my heart is with you.
Until we meet again,
Olivia

Ron will be missed, we will cherish all the good memories of visits, card games, oyster shucking, turkey hunting, fishing ( especially remembering the time two guys Ron and Bill) tried to go fishing after both had their knees repaired- gave some young guys a really good laugh ❤️
