It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Johnnie Robert Malarsie on August 29th 2023. John fought a courageous battle with dementia for many years and passed away peacefully with his wife and daughters by is side.

John is survived by wife Charlene , daughters Nicole and Brittany, Sister - in - law Colette ( Rick) , grandsons Maxwell and Levi, and many nieces and nephews.

John was born June 28th 1952 in Washington State. His career was spent in the sawmill industry where he was highly regarded. His happiest moments were spent with his family. His mother- in - law, Colleen always held a special place in his heart. John thrived  on the soccer field with his team the Royal Oaks. He was an avid competitor at everything he did. John spent much time in the Shuswap, raking the beach and having fun in the sun. He was a a man known for his exceptional cooking skills. His spaghetti sauce and greek salad were legendary. John’s blue eyes and infectious smile lit up rooms everywhere he went.

John was always devoted and committed to all of his family, in particular his wife and daughters. His greatest accomplishments were being a husband, a son-in-law, a dad and a grandfather. He was a kind, caring and loving man. We all have cherished memories of him that will never be forgotten.

We would like to thank the staff at New Vista Care Home for making the last years of John’s life joyful and content.

A Celebration of Life will be held September 16 at 12:30 at 6879 Kingsway Avenue, Burnaby, BC.

I didn't know John well, but he and Charlene always made our Christmas get togethers at Colleen and Bob's a special time to remember. I think of him as a very loving, accepting and gentle man. I am so sorry he and the family had to suffer through his dementia in particular, he left this life much too soon. My sympathy and condolences go out to Charlene and family. Lots of Love, Joan

Some hate Facebook. But it brought me to my brother and family. What little time I spent with you, was the greatest. I wish we were closer. I will miss you.

Mr Malarsie as I knew him way back when, was always kind, good natured and took the time to talk to me when I was at is house. A friends dad can be intimidating when you are a young kid, but this man made it very comfortable with his sense of humour. A wonderful characteristic for someone to have. I can’t imagine how much he will be missed by his family xo

My heart hurts to hear this news. I’m sorry that he had to battle dementia and he left this world too young. I have fun childhood memories of him when my Dad played soccer with John. He was like the Fonz to me in that era.πŸ˜‚ He was one of my favorites for sure, because he was funny; his smile was infectious and yes those blue happy eyes. I remember the early days when you guys would hang with my parents and laughing was a common occurrence. What I remember too is how John would swear so much on the soccer field and sometimes get yellow cards because he was playing like a true Italian; very impressionable on an 8 year old.🫒
I can recall some crazy stories of a soccer trip when I was packed into a van with a bunch of my Dad’s teammates and all I could smell was beer and A535 muscle cream.πŸ˜‚ I also have fond memories of a camping trip we did and John rode motorcycles and hung out at the fire; he was like my big buddy. He always went out of his way to make me feel seen and heard. He had a big heart and I’m sorry I was not able to visit him since finding out he had dementia. May you be comforted by the memories and his spirit that lives on in the kids. Reach out anytime, I would love to chat. πŸ’›πŸ™πŸ˜‡πŸŒŸ
Love and hugs, Leah
