Jessie Edith Sloan (Tanghe)

1928-2024

Forever in our hearts and always in our memories

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jessie Edith Sloan, age 95 of Maple Ridge, B.C. Jessie passed away peacefully on April 22, 2024, at Maple Ridge Senior Village, eight days shy of her 96th birthday! She was predeceased by her husband, Pete (2002) and son, Harold (2016), but lives on in her children, Julianna Stelter (Bob), Peter Sloan (Arvilla), Debbie Baril (Dan), and Tammy Gadsby (Brent). She leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Born sixth in a family of 10 children, Jessie was born at home on a farm just north of Kinuso, Alberta but spent most of her life in Maple Ridge. She is survived by her brother Joe (soon to be 102!) and her brother, Fred (100 years old) and her sister Viney (soon to be 94). Jessie's creativity knew no bounds - she was an accomplished crocheter, knitter, seamstress, beader, and an enthusiast of candle-wicking, flower pressing, and drawing, earning her several accolades at the PNE.  Our family extends gratitude to the Maple Ridge Seniors Village's staff for their compassionate care. Special thanks to Dutchie Matheson for her book Wild Roses, which brought Jessie joy in her final days. And lastly, we would like to recognize mom’s dearest friend, Molly O’Dell, who always brought laughter and love to her life. In honour of her wishes there will be no funeral service, and she will be laid to rest alongside her husband in Alberta. Mom had a good sense of humour and a kind and gentle disposition; she will be dearly missed.
