It is with much sadness that we share the news of the passing of Ian David Gillies on June 27, 2022.  Ian’s family immigrated from Whitburn, Scotland when Ian was a toddler.  Most recently he resided in Maple Ridge, BC with his partner Elizabeth Silva.

Ian leaves behind his son Cameron, mother Barbara, sister-in-law Vita and nephew Jeffrey.  He was predeceased by his brother Steven and father John.

Ian loved nature, reading, politics and history.  If you had the opportunity to talk with him, you would have experienced his passion.  He loved our home in the forest.  He loved fishing and camping as a young man.  He had an innate connection with animals.  They gravitated to him.  Our pets followed him everywhere. Ian also loved to cook.  Bacon, aged cheddar and garlic were staples in our home.  Country music was his favorite although of late he very much enjoyed listening to 70’s and 80’s rock.  He was a techy geek, learning coding and developing apps in his free time.

Ian was a gentle giant with a giving heart.  This was his greatest quality. He gave of himself selflessly.  If you were in need he was there.  At the same time, he was a no fuss guy.  Those he opened his heart to got the best of him.

Ian’s greatest pride was his son Cameron.  His “great boy” whom Ian cherished with all his heart.

Ian left this world suddenly, unexpectedly.  He suffered many years of chronic pain.  To ease his loved one’s loss and for his peaceful eternal rest, prayers are requested.

Losing a loved one suddenly is traumatic and finite.  Everything you hoped for is gone.  There is no time to waste.  Cherish those you love.  Don’t let disagreements keep you apart.  Be present and love like Ian, with all your heart.

A private viewing will be held for family only July 5, 2022.  A Celebration of Life will be planned during the summer for family and friends.

Please email RememberingIanG@gmail.com if you would like to participate in the Celebration of Life and to share your memories and photos of Ian.  Ian would want us to celebrate and not mourn his passing.  This is Elizabeth’s wish as well.
