George Gerhard Klassen

August 23, 1939 - May 24, 2022 (age 82)

With profound sadness, we wish to announce the loss of George Gerhard Klassen. Family at his side, George passed away peacefully at his home in Maple Ridge on Tuesday, May 24th, 2022 at the age of 82.

He is survived by his wife Anna, brother Dick, children Katherine, grandchildren Jill (Scott), Jay (Emily), Leyland (Heather), Danyue (Mike), Chad (Melissa), Tanysha, Heleyna (Nicholas), great grandchildren Lily, Madeline, James, Violet, Sawyer, Autumn, Eloise, and several nieces and nephews. George is predeceased by his son Richard (December 10, 2016).

Born in Osterwick, Ukraine in 1939, George along with his family fled to Canada during WW2. After marrying his wife Anna in 1959, they raised Rick and Kathy in Sardis, taking over their family's cedar mill and coaching various sports. They finally settled in Maple Ridge in 1979.

George successfully ran the cedar mill from 1969-2018. He was an avid golfer and spent his free time at Pitt Meadows Golf Club, cooking family dinners, and going on annual trips to Arizona, Mexico, Kelowna, and Hawaii. 

His legacy will remain strong and his kind heart and personality will live on through his family. He will be greatly missed. 

A celebration of life will be planned at a later date for family and friends.
