Francis (Frank) Ronald Thrift of the Tri-Cities passed away on November 3., 2023 at age 99.

Frank was born to Henry and Margaret Thrift in 1924 in New Westminster. A long time fixture in Maillardville where Frank started working at his father’s store on Brunette Ave. at the foot of Laval St in the 1930s. After serving in the RCAF during WWII Frank returned to the family business as it moved to a larger building on the west side of Laval. Through the 1970s Frank is remembered looking out over his glasses from behind his butcher’s counter and delivering groceries in his green panel van. He went on as a partner in the IGA a 41st and Granville in Vancouver where he developed another group of customers and friends.

Frank was the long time leader of the 6th Coquitlam Boy Scouts. In retirement he became very active in square dancing with groups like the Royal Swingers. Though this did nothing for his infamously poor fashion sense it did introduce his continuous smile and ready laugh to yet another cadre of friends.

Frank is survived by his wife of 74 years Barbara Thrift (Silver), sons Greg, Gary and Brent, their wives Helen, Jocelyne and Paulette, Grandchildren Michael, Nick, Rochelle and Julia, and 3 Great Grandchildren

As a child, I remember Frank's friendly face as he picked our order. Always left his store feeling good.

Dear Thrift Family,
Frank has been a fiend to our family for decades. With him we have lost a wonderful person that brought so much fun and laughter into everybody’s life. It was a pleasure for us to have had him in our lifes, spending precious times with him over the years, although meeting up has been become less over time and age.
He was fortunate to live a long life together with Barb and his family. He will always be remembered and never forgotten. We are grateful to have known him. Greetings to you all.
