It is with profound sadness, Soni Cultural Society of BC announces the passing of Mrs. Champaben Lodhia, beloved wife of Ramnikbhai Lodhia on December 3, 2022.

Champaben is survived by her husband Ramnikbhai Lodhia, daughter Aartie Raniga, son-in-law Vijay Raniga, son, Atul Lal, daughter Prietie Pala, son-in-law Sunil Pala, son Ajay Lal, Partner Char Sahota, daughter Preeya Nathwani, son-in-law Parimal Nathwani, grandchildren Puja, Jaisal, Jaimini, Kayla and Kian.

Our heartfelt condolences to the entire family and friends of Mrs. Champaben Lodhia.

Champaben was the fourth child born in Lautoka, Fiji on November 25, 1936 to parents Bhimji Mulji Raniga of Sodhana Village, Porbandar, Gujarat and Rambai Mulji Raniga (Nee Payda/Pala) of Oddar Village, Porbandar, Gujarat. She was a part of the large family of four sisters and five brothers. Her siblings are: Late Santa Ben Bhindi (Late Sundarji Bhindi); Late Mani Ben Pala (Varajlal Pala); Late Haribhai B. Raniga (Champa Ben Raniga) Radha Ben Dhanji (Late Chotubhai Dhanji); Ramjibhai B. Raniga (Nirmala Ben Raniga); Ramesh B. Raniga; Kantibhai B. Raniga (Kanta Ben Raniga) and Late Dhiraj Lal Raniga (Late Manjula Ben Raniga).

On March 24, 1960, Champaben married Ramnikbhai Lodhia, the son of Morarji Dharamsi Lodhia of Porbandar, Gujarat and Amba Ben Lodhia (Nee Bhovan) of Korovau, Tavua, Fiji. Champaben’s husband Ramnikbhai left Fiji for Canada in 1967. Champaben and her children Aartie, Atul and Prietie left Fiji for Vancouver, BC in 1969 to join her husband Ramniklal Lodhia and brother Ramji Raniga. The Lodhia couple were blessed with two additional children Ajay and Preeya and Surrey, British Columbia had become their home for the years to come. Champaben and Ramnikbhai Lodhia were amongst the most dedicated members of the Soni Cultural Society of BC and they volunteered their services in an unconditional manner for the advancement community events such as the Navratri Festival, Diwali Dinner and other cultural events in the Greater Vancouver region.

“She was like the Beautiful ‘Oak Tree’. Strong, Healthy, Sturdy and Robust. With those qualities is how she raised and took care of our family” are the utterances of Champaben’s children. Champaben’s unconditional love, nurturing qualities and culinary skills made her the matriarch of the whole family, which shall be deeply missed by everyone, including all of her family, relatives and friends.
