It is with profound sadness that the family of Avery Somersgill announce her sudden passing on Wednesday May 11, 2022 at the age of 20.
Avery was born in Maple Ridge on August 28th, 2001 to parents, Jeff and Dustine Somersgill (Collings). Avery will be lovingly remembered by her devoted younger sister, Madelyn Somersgill, her grandparents, Sandra Collings (Williams), Kathleen Forseth (Stewart), Bob Somersgill, and Noel Somersgill (Ridley). She will also be missed by her many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who have become chosen family.
Avery is predeceased by her grandfathers, Lee Forseth and Michael Collings, and her uncle, Bryan Forseth.
Avery spent the majority of her life in Maple Ridge, graduating at the top of her class from Garibaldi Secondary in 2019. She then moved to Vancouver Island to attend the University of Victoria on a full academic scholarship. Avery was living in Victoria at the time of her passing.
Avery was innately curious and always up for an adventure. She loved to travel, to learn, and to laugh. Avery was caring, kind-hearted, and wickedly funny. Avery brought joy and light to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
We will be honoring Avery with a service on May 28th at 9:00 AM at Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel 11969 216 St, Maple Ridge. Those who need the closure of a service, those whose life was impacted by Avery, or those who just knew and loved her are all welcome.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Ridge Meadows Foundry. Foundry offers an integrated approach to supporting youth mental health.

Dusty, Jeff, Madelyn and family,
I am so sorry to learn of your loss of your beautiful daughter/sister. Avery was one of my daughters first friends as we all connected in our baby group with Alisa and Helena. I am so sorry we lost touch when we moved out of province. I am at a loss for words. I cannot imagine the pain of this loss and I just wanted to express my sympathy and let you know even as a baby, she made a beautiful impact with her gorgeous red locks of hair and smile. You are all in my prayers.

Such a beautiful young woman taken too soon. We met Avery when the kids were in preschool and we knew her as a warm, loving, super smart girl with the most beautiful red curls. Rest in peace Avery.
