Paulette Elizabeth Tourand
January 23, 1945 – January 14, 2021
Paulette passed away painlessly and peacefully in the arms of her loving husband of 57 years to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus.
Paulette was born in Fort Frances, Ontario, the fourth of five daughters and a younger bother.
She was baptized at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Frances. Her family moved to Vancouver when she was 11. Even though the family was not religious and didn’t attend church, Polly(Paulette) was drawn to the church and began to attend St. Joseph’s in Vancouver at age 12. This became the very core of her soul as she found her faith to be the rock that she relied on during her trials and tribulations. She first met the person who would become the love of her life that same year as she requested to attend St Joseph’s Catholic school. Polly’s father moved the family often and Mel was surprised to find that Polly didn’t return for the following year and learned that she was now living in Prince George. Melvin wrote letters and occasionally visited Polly as she moved around the province. A few years later the good friendship became romantic. Shortly after Polly’s 19th birthday they were married and expecting a child.
Tragically, there was difficulty in the last trimester and a son named Gerald was delivered by emergency cesarian, however the baby was 2 months early and did not survive. As Polly was close to death herself from substantial blood loss, she was never able to see Gerald before he was gone. The pain she carried from this event was always close to the surface and quite often over the last few months she would say that she really wondered what Gerald looks like.
Three years later Mel and Polly welcomed another boy named Thomas followed by a daughter named Denise 2 years after.
Polly found tremendous joy being with her family.
Polly has 3 grandchildren, Chantelle(30), Joshua(29), and Cole(25) as well as 3 great grandchildren Kinley(10), Lennon(5) and Indy(3).
Polly will be missed dearly by all her family and friends for her faith and kindness.
Mel and Polly knew each other for over 60 years and were married for over 57 years, but their love will endure for ever.
As much as we miss her, there is comfort in knowing that she now knows what Gerald looks like.
