Michael Sterling

We are sad to announce the passing of Michael Kenneth Sterling on October 16, 2020, after a battle with cancer.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Chunfang, his stepdaughter Xiaohong, his daughter Tanya Ann MacKay and his five brothers, Cliff, George, Martin, Glenn, and Bryon.

Mike was born in the Nicola Valley in mid-1950s, where he and with his 5 siblings were raised by parents Patrick and Donna Sterling.

Mike enjoyed school and was active in sports, he especially loved hockey which he started playing at an early age and continued to play well into his adult years.

He was a music lover, he studied music in school, played the trombone, and amassed a large record collection as he was always willing to explore music of all kinds.

Mike had a great sense of humour and loved to share a laugh over a joke or funny story. When his hearty, infectious laugh filled the room you knew there was a good story being told.

Mike met his future wife Chunfang while touring in Nanning, China in Christmas 2004. They were married in June 2006. In 2012 they decided to move back to Canada and together with stepdaughter Xiao, made a happy home in New Westminster.

Mike had a great big heart, a generous spirit and knew great joy in his life, especially as husband with wife Chunfang.

He will be dearly missed by us all.

My dearest eldest bro, thanks for everything, all the great times we were able to spend together. For all the times you stood up for me and had my back. To all the good times, just sharing company. Playing sports together, when we were young (street hockey on the front road or just down the street, ice hockey on the rinks we made in the backyard, touch football in the Diamond vale school yard). And watching sports or attending games together, as our playing times faded. To great meals and conversations. Plenty of good times. We didn't spend as much time together as we'd have liked to, but when we did, it was quality. Will miss you dearly bro. Love you. Kathryn, Ethan, Cheryl, & Glenn
