KARASZ, Joseph Michael
November 19, 1942 – November 24, 2021
Joe passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Maple Ridge, B.C. five days after his 79th birthday. He was born in Budapest, Hungary and came to Canada with his family at the age of 14 during the 1956 Hungarian revolution. They settled in Nelson, B.C. to join his grandparents who had preceded them. He met his future wife Shirley there while they were in LV Rogers High School and they married in 1965. They later moved to the Vancouver area.
Joe is survived by Shirley, his loving wife of 56 years, his daughter Melanie Crowhurst, who was so special to him and his son-in-law Stephen. He was Nagypapa to his beloved grandkids, Sarah and Kieran. He is also survived by his brother George (Gaby) and their daughter Pamela, his beloved Auntie Elizabeth and cousin Kim in Burnaby, B.C., and close cousin Marcsi and her family in Hungary. Joe was a proud Hungarian and a hard working family man.
Joe worked as a journeyman steel fabricator/foreman for Continental Steel for more than 40 years. His proudest achievement was his crew building the 1986 Expo hoops. Joe enjoyed his retirement, travel with Shirley in their RV, especially to the Oregon Coast, and their visits to Hungary. He recently became involved in making metal art and woodworking, which he displayed in art galleries. Joe was a people person; he loved nothing more than to chat with our neighbours going by and showing them his latest creations.
Many thanks to our family, neighbours and friends for their help and support during this difficult time. We are very grateful to the paramedics who tried so long and hard to keep Joe with us.
We love you, we miss you. örökké a szívünkben - forever in our hearts.
We will have a Celebration of Joe’s life at a later date.
