Herman Cornelius (Harry) Neufeld

Harry Cornelius Neufeld

Harry was born in 1932 at Morton Manitoba to Margaret and Cornelius Neufeld. He and his sister, Mary, moved with his parents to Agassiz, British Columbia where he later met his wife, Norma Lauraine Zirk.

Norma and Harry were wed by Pastor William Peterson in August of 1953 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Dewdney Trunk Road. Harry, who had a passion for construction, built their house in Pitt Meadows. In 1956 they had their first child, Gail. They moved to the Yennadon area of Maple Ridge and had their second child, Alvin, in 1961. Alvin tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident in 1990.

Harry loved his family, house, garden, the Church, and to travel. Harry and his wife were involved with many of the goings-on at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, activities that ranged from building to baking. He was a loyal and dedicated husband to Norma, who passed away on May 26, 2016.
With the help of his daughter and grandchildren Harry was able to enjoy his final years “living the life” at home. His house of over 30 years in Maple Ridge was where he could be most comfortable, read the newspaper, and eat all of the cookies he wanted.
The day before he passed, Harry’s daughter and grandchildren visited him at his bedside. He prayed and listened to them tell him how much he was loved, before passing away peacefully early the next day.
Harry will be reunited in Heaven with his parents Cornelius and Margaret, wife Norma, son Alvin, and all of his friends and family who passed before him. He will be missed by his daughter Gail, grandchildren Taunia, Nathaniel and Alana, his sister Mary, and many other loved ones.
