Douglas McCall Armour

It is with tremendous sadness that we share the news of the passing of Douglas McCall Armour on Sunday July 12, 2020 at the age of 49. Doug fell ill suddenly and spent his last days in the ICU at RCH. He is predeceased by his father, Robert (Bob) Armour. Doug is survived by his loving family, wife Danica, sons Cade & Tavis, mother Elizabeth (Beth) Armour, brother Stuart Armour (Jennifer), the Bell family, mother-in-law and father-in-law Peter & Monica Stewart, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Melissa & Craig Nagai and Janay & Darrin Legge. Doug was also the proud uncle to his nieces and nephew (Aneko, Mika, Emiko, Shelby, Cavelle, Genica & Justin).

Doug was born in Greenock, Scotland in 1971 and immigrated to Canada in 1973. The family started their new life in Coquitlam where they lived for thirty-five plus years. Doug met the love of his life, Danica, in 1992 and married in June 2000. Together they raised their two boys, Cade & Tavis - his greatest legacy. Doug started his working career right out of high school in the security industry which lasted 17 years. He then pursued his lifelong dream of joining the fire department becoming a dedicated paid-on-call member for MRFD in 2001. He devoted many hours to the training division and found great satisfaction in teaching those around him to develop their skills. In 2007, his dream came true of becoming a career firefighter. He served in many positions during that time until he was promoted to his current position of Assistant Fire Chief (Operations). His passion never wavered through his career - Doug poured his heart and soul into everything he did always saying he would never ask anyone to do anything that he wouldn't do.

Doug's family would like to thank the amazing medical staff in Royal Columbian's ICU for their care and family support as well as family physician, Dr. T. Ivanov. Our family will be forever grateful for the outpouring of support from the MRFD, family, friends, and community.

We understand this is a difficult time for family and friends and that many people would like to attend the service but at this time it is impossible due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A private family service will be held July 25, 2020.

The service will be available for all to view starting at 10am at https://mapleridgefirefighterscharity.ca/doug/

In lieu of flowers, as Doug was a regular blood donor, blood donations in his honour would be appreciated. Or if you wish, donations may be made to the "Maple Ridge Firefighters Charitable Society" at https://mapleridgefirefighterscharity.ca/doug/ going towards a memorial bursary in honour of Doug.
